Unfortunately for the majority of Americans, money is tight. I am always on the lookout for easy, quick ways to save or earn money and Swagbucks* definitely is one tool I keep coming back to! There’s quite a lot of buzz about it so maybe you’re already using it. If not, read on for a quick intro and 5 quick tips.
What is Swagbucks?
Swagbucks* is kind of a combination of survey, sweepstakes, game and rebate sites. It is completely legitimate. According to their website, “Swagbucks.com is the web’s most popular rewards program that gives you free gift cards and cash for the everyday things you already do online.”
How do you earn money with Swagbucks?
You earn points, or Swagbucks (SB) by completing daily tasks such as watching videos, filling out your profile information, playing games, taking polls or surveys and shopping online. Then you turn your SB in for gift cards to a ton of different shops (though Amazon is usually my go-to) or they also have a Sweepstakes program where you can enter for drawings. I don’t usually mess with the Sweepstakes because I like a guarantee but it is definitely an option if that’s something you enjoy. Gift cards start as low as 300 SB for a $3 Amazon card. They also run sales sometimes so you can get gift cards for even less than the average 100/$1 payout.
What’s the catch?
There really isn’t one. Sure you aren’t going to make enough money to pay off your student loans, but it is a great way to get rebates on purchases you were already planning on making and make a little extra on the side to help with birthdays and holidays. It does take some time but you get to decide how much effort you are willing to put in.
5 Quick Steps to Maximize Your Payout
Install the Swagbucks toolbar button
You’ll get alerted to SwagCodes, which you can simply type in using the toolbar button to earn. I usually can earn 1 to 15 SB/day using SwagCodes, depending on how often they run them and how long I’m on the computer.
2. Set Swagbucks as your browser’s homepage/default search engine and/or download the app.
If you have the Swagbucks search bar or homepage set as the first screen you see whenever you open your browser, it’s that much easier to use it for your searches. I will admit it is not as accurate a search engine as Google, but you can randomly earn SB from searches. I usually get 10-100 SB/week just from searching things I would already be searching. I know some people who will spend a few minutes a day just randomly searching things in hopes of triggering some SB.
3. Start at Swagbucks before you do your online shopping
I’ll share my personal testimony below but seriously, if you do any amount of your shopping online, you need to be using Swagbucks. They have some of the best rebate rates and run specials at great shops all the time. Check back often – I start watching for increased rebates starting in the late Summer for birthday and Christmas presents. If you travel often or are booking a vacation soon, definitely start at SB.
4. Share your Swagbucks link and encourage friends and family to share
Anyone using Swagbucks gets a referral link. There are several ways you can share it – directly to your social media friends/followers, sent in an email to your friends and family, or as a link like I’ve used in this post*. Anyone who signs up to Swagbucks through your affiliate link will be linked to your account, and you will get 10% of everything they ever buy through SB. For life! Some restrictions do apply, but again, that’s some awesome potential earnings with little work on your end. It’s especially great if your parents or siblings aren’t on it yet, super easy recruits!
5. Take a 15 minute break each day to get your swag on
One of the great things about Swagbucks vs. other survey programs is its versatility. There is really a way to earn money for everyone. If you just detest taking surveys, watch a few videos a day. Sometimes if I am working on a project at the computer for a while I will turn on the videos and let them play in the background. As long as you check in every 10 minutes or so, you can easily earn a few Swagbucks points with minimal effort. There are daily challenges that are a great place to start – complete 6 of the 7 tasks (which usually take around 15 minutes) and get points. How easy is that?!
My best Swagbucks deal
Buying a convertible car seat can be insanely expensive. V has always hit the 90-100th percentile in height so we knew we wanted a convertible car seat with one of the highest height requirements (especially for rear facing). After lots of polling on mommy Facebook groups, I decided to go with the Britax Boulevard Click-Tight*. As every mom on a budget does, I scoured the web for the best deal. I ended up buying the car seat online from Kohl’s (last place you’d think to look, right?!) during a Kohl’s Cash campaign. I popped over to Swagbucks and they were running a double rebate campaign as well, plus the new Kohl’s points system so with all the rebates, I ended up paying roughly $165 for an originally $300 convertible car seat!
And the best part, I didn’t have to spend hours couponing and negotiating. Start with Swagbucks* every time you are purchasing something online. I’ve even started doing this with products I know I don’t need immediately, just to see if I can get a rebate if I buy it online and have it end up being cheaper than purchasing in the store. It takes such a minimal amount of extra time and is so worth it.
If you aren’t using Swagbucks yet, I hope this alleviates some of your misgivings and you get started earning some side money today. What are you waiting for? Start earning today!*
